| About Us |
| Church Stretton is a small
market town built in the valley which lies between two lines of hills,
the result of a double geological fault. The Romans built a road
along the eastern side of the valley and on the summit of Caer Caradoc
here is an Iron Age camp. It is believed that the earliest settlers
were Saxons and later Stretton was mentioned in the Domesday records of
1086.
The small settlement gradually grew into a market town servicing the local area. Then in the late nineteenth century it developed into a holiday resort and became known as 'Little Switzerland ' as housing spread on to the surrounding hillsides. The bottling of the local spring water also developed and Stretton Hills water is still bottled here and it is sold around the country. More recently many people have been drawn to retire to the town. However, it does still remain a holiday centre especially for walkers who enjoy the peace and solitude of the outstanding scenery around Church Stretton and the South Shropshire Hills in general.

The
practice which was started in 1974 is situated within Church Stretton and
as well as providing medical services for town, we also cover the surrounding
rural area to a radius of about seven miles. This is approximately
one hundred and ten square miles and we have over 7,400 patients of which
over half live in the rural areas.
Each consulting room contains
a computer to access medical records and the patient calling system plus
a printer for printing prescriptions and an examination couch. All
of the windows have blinds to ensure privacy from any nearby buildings.
We are also connected to the adjacent health centre by a linked corridor which can be used by staff or patients. |

The practice uses the computer system to record all patient consultations and other patient data. We were computerised in 1992 and use the EMIS computer system, all data on the computer system is confidential to the practice. The practice is registered under the Data Protection Act. You are welcome to see all the information stored on the computer about yourself and requests to do so should be made in writing to the Practice Manager who will arrange an appointment for you with your doctor. A fee will be charged. The appointments system is also on the computer and patients are called to see the doctor via a computerised display board in the waiting room, which shows the patient's name, the doctor or practice nurse they are to see and the number of the consulting room they need to go to. We are also linked electronically
with the Shropshire County Primary Care Trust and the hospital for laboratory
and x-ray results.

| Protection
and Use of Your Information - Your Records are Safe with Us
We ask for information about yourself so that you can receive the best possible care and treatment. We keep this information, together with details of your care, to ensure that your doctor or nurse has accurate and up to date information, it also maybe needed if we see you again. We only use or pass information about you to people who have a genuine need for it. Whenever we can we shall remove details that identify you as an individual. Everyone working for the NHS has a legal duty to maintain the highest level of confidentiality about patient information. If at any time you would like to know more about how we use your information you can speak to the practice manager. For further information please refer to the leaflets held in reception entitled "Your Records are Safe with Us". The practice has recently given permission for
triage doctors at Shropshire Doctors Co-operative Ltd (Shropdoc) to access
patients' previous blood test results at the pathology laboratory at the Royal
Shrewsbury Hospital during out of hours when the doctor deems it necessary
for patient care. This is via a secure password protected link and will
help the triage doctors to make the appropriate decision about patient care.
They will not be able to access any other part of the patient's record.
This decision is in line with other practices in Shropshire and follows
discussions between Shropdoc, Shropshire County PCT, the Primary Care Medical
Advisor and the pathology department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. |
