Training Practice

As a training practice, we are very committed to training the doctors of the future whether they have chosen to become GPs as in the case of GP Registrars, or whether they have yet to decide their chosen career path as with the medical students.  It is now recognised that medical students should have experience of general practice as well as hospitals as part of their training even if they eventually become a surgeon.

Thank you for support our training and giving our registrars and medical students the opportunity to learn from you.

GP Registrars

We are a training practice for registered doctors who have extensive hospital experience but who would like to enter general practice.  They join us for twelve months in order to gain an insight into general practice and the medical problems that are dealt with by GPs.  They will hold their own surgeries as well as sitting in with other doctors or health professionals.  They work under our supervision at all times and Dr Robinson takes primary responsibility for their overall training.

Medical Students

We also take medical students from Keele University (based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  They are here to gain experience of general practice and as part of this experience, their curriculum requires them to see patients by themselves in order to take a medical history and conduct an examination (if appropriate) of your problem.  This should take about 20 minutes.

They will then present the information to one of our doctors with the patient present.  The problem will be discussed and the practice doctor will initiate any treatment necessary.  This second consultation will also take 20 minutes.  You will need to allow approximately 40 minutes for the combined appointment.
